Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was a track from the year 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most streamed track worldwide within just 6 months. The song was a mix of pop and reggaeton that not only drew attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In 2017, during the height of Despacito's popularity, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish have made it into the Top 100. By 2020 the number will increase to 41 hits that fall into this category. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017. In the year following, the most well-known artists began collaborating with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated on Medellin with Maluma (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the trend going. It often blended elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
