Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on August 9, 1963, at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick. She began singing in the choir of the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark when she was a child and by the age of fifteen, she was singing back vocals professionally alongside the mother of her on Chaka Khan's hit song from 1978 Im Every Woman. She went on to provide back vocals to Lou Rawls, Jermaine & Jackson as well as her own mother. She also was briefly models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. Her first gig was as a featured vocalist for the band from New York called Material in the year 1981. Though the movie was not an instant hit nor did her performance, the score of the film's Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You reached the number one spot on both the album and single charts in America for months. She sold over 44,000,000 albums across the globe. When she welcomed her daughter Bobbi, Brown married Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. Around this time, her drug abuse became well documented and she was able to use it regularly until 1996.

Dana Bash is also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz and she is a correspondent for the political world as well as a reporter for CNN.
